ALTERNATE EDUCATION PROGRAM
If a person is interested in working at a licensed
daycare and have another course (ex. nursing, teaching, psychology), they can
apply to find out the certification level they have. This is done by the
person completing a form* with their transcripts. Depending on qualifications,
they may meet the one of the levels of ECE I, II or III.
3) NO TRAINING THAT MEETS THE QUALIFICATIONS OF ECE
These persons can work
at a licensed daycare at the discretion of the board, with a clear criminal
record check, less than 65 hours per month. This is useful for staff
that are high school students or casual.
4) NO TRAINING BUT TAKING THE ECE COURSE
As above, but can work
more than 65 hours per month and need to complete an Application for
Exemption form* from the Ministry to grant permission, in conjunction with
the licensed daycare.
5) TUITION REIMBURSEMENT GRANT
After completing any ECE course, the employee must complete a form* from the Ministry, and signed by the daycare chairperson, to apply for the tuition reimbursement grant. Eligible employees must successfully complete the course and be working at the licensed daycare to qualify and must include receipt of payment and copy of transcripts. The tuition subsidy is $150.00 per class - total cost of classes and books can run between $300.00 and $400.00. The Ministry pays the daycare, and in turn, the daycare pays the employee the grant.
