About Montmartre
Montmartre is a community of 900 people (rural and urban) located 50 minutes from Regina. It is a vibrant rural community that has managed to not only survive, but thrive, in this decade’s uncertain agricultural climate.
Montmartre’s population has stayed steady for some 5 decades now and new initiatives currently being undertaken, like a biweekly farmers’ market and a regional arts centre, are designed to invigorate the already stable economy and attract new investment and interest in our community.Montmartre is an extremely peaceful town, where children can walk to the swimming pool, rink or corner store unattended (for related stories, visit the EDC page). It is also a safe and friendly town where volunteers come together regularly to take on projects such as holding barbecues for a new roof on the rink, hosting Carnivals to fund activities for kids and making perogies to support the operation of the local church.
Montmartre has a modern healthcare centre which offers emergency services as well as regular doctor appointments two days a week. There are 14 long-term-care residents housed in this facility with over 20 staff members being employed at the health centre. There are many young families in Montmartre which has helped to keep our school population at the 200 mark for grades K to 12. These families keep their kids extremely active in programs from skating to swimming to baseball to volleyball, curling and soccer. There is also a whole host of Centre 48 arts and continuing education programs like violin, piano, drama, quilting, photography, etc. that Montmartre’s residents can now be involved in year-around.
The seniors in this community are extremely active, with numerous programs like dancing, travel, story telling, health and fitness, bingo and many more classes being offered on a regular basis at the local Senior Citizen’s Centre.
One of the highlights of coming to Montmartre has to be a visit to our expansive park (Kemoca Regional) which is active all summer long with activities such as baseball, camping, swimming, walking and family reunions. The park features a very busy swimming pool, a campground, a canopy-roofed picnic area that seats 200, a new playground, a canteen and a 1.35 kilometre walking trail.
Just down the road from the park is a nine-hole golf course which has boasted lush green grass for the last few years despite the lack of rain in other areas of the province. While the greens are sand, the price is low - at just $5 a round, we don’t think you can beat it.
And last, but not least, Montmartre just recently opened its brand new village office which is a beautiful new building located on the town’s main street. This new building is also home to an active Regional Library and the Centre 48 office.
Montmartre has a thriving business community which includes agriculture-related industries like a large John Deere dealership, a fuel company and fertilizer and chemical companies. In addition, the downtown area is a busy place with two grocery stores, a bank, a credit union, two restaurants and several other service-oriented businesses.
So whether it’s just for a visit, or perhaps to check out a new place to live (did we mention how low housing prices are: $7,000 - $70,000), we welcome you to Montmartre. Stay a week or stay for years - we’d love to have you.
